Irish Music in the Pacific Northwest

Welcome to the website of Ceol Cascadia Irish Music Association. We are based in Seattle, Washington, USA. Our mission is to preserve and nurture the heritage of Irish traditional music and culture in the Pacific Northwest, by organizing classes, concerts and other events; through public outreach; and by presenting the Cascadia Irish Music Week, a yearly gathering of learners and teachers of Irish traditional music and culture.  Ceol Cascadia is a project of the Irish Heritage Club of Seattle, a longstanding nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.  You can make a tax-deductible donation to Ceol Cascadia using PayPal here.

With the many ties between the Pacific Northwest and Ireland - including Seattle's sister city relationship with Galway City, and the wonderful maritime weather we all enjoy - the Northwest is a natural setting for this great music.

  • What is an Irish "Session" ?

    • It's not a "jam", but more of a friendly gathering in which players go over the melodies in the traditional repertoire.. a group memory exercise combined with a party!  An Irish traditional music session is a place where people who know how to play Irish traditional music come together, sometimes in public, sometimes in private homes, to share and enjoy the music and good company. There will usually be some fiddles, some flutes or tinwhistles, maybe button accordions, concertinas, uilleann pipes.. and if you're lucky a good singer will chip in the occasional song, the word in Irish for a session is "seisiún", and you can check out our listing of sessions to see who's playing where.
